This book includes fifteen chapters that detail pediatric sports psychology. In Chapter 1, the concept of pediatric sports psychology is introduced. Chapter 2 illustrates the risky behaviors from adolescents in the United States who participate in sports. Chapter 3 outlines the preparation and management for participation in sports for children and adolescents, including the types of developments pertaining to sports readiness and how the risks during child and adolescent development could impact sports readiness. Chapter 4 highlights the presence of disordered eating behaviors in young athletes, the importance of early detection, and the approaches essential in the treatment of disordered eating. Chapter 5 examines the current evidence on how concussions sustained during sports participation impact children and adolescents across cognitive, behavioral, and academic domains.
