Plato’s model of the matrix of history (τιθήνη, the nurturer) foreshadows the dynamics of a crisis matrix, as conceived by Adam Tooze. This crisis matrix model of the universe can interpret geopolitical global modern crises with the phenomenologist’s embracketing method. In order to embracket, the development of historical phenomena in space, their unfolding in space implies the suspension of all claims to actual reality. What is thus retained leads us to consider what really exists in history. The enquiry we have in mind is a conceptual analysis of ways of grasping how the historical process is unfolded in space. It is necessary that we should begin with historical events unfolding in space and the problems this entails thus following the steps of the phenomenological method as Spiegelberg takes them up.
