Lessons from the University of Life
The Talmudic sage Rabbi Chanina said, "I have learned much from my teachers, and even more from my colleagues, but from my students I have learned more than from anyone else."
This book, Things the Rabbi Learned: Lessons from the University of Life, reflects that reality. We all know that more than all the professional degrees and qualifications we may obtain at institutions of higher learning, at the end of the day, it is the world-famous University of Life that teaches us the most by far. Above all, this book communicates what I have learned over fifty years from all kinds of people and from events that have been instructive, eye-opening, and occasionally inspirational. These are real-life stories with relevant messages for all of us. These are things I learned over the years. I hope you will learn from them too.
Rabbi Yossy Goldman, born in New York, was sent by the Lubavitcher Rebbe to South Africa in 1976 to open the very first Chabad House in Africa. He became Senior Rabbi of Johannesburg's largest synagogue, the Sydenham Shul, in 1986. After
thirty-five years of leadership, he was appointed Rabbi Emeritus for Life. He is President of the South African Rabbinical Association and a featured columnist on Chabad.org and JNS.org, as well as a popular public speaker who has lectured on
six continents. His previous book, on the weekly Torah readings, is From Where I Stand.
