"Tilt's throwies are plump, jolly beings, with a wonderful harmony between line and space. They shake, rattle and roll, even on a concrete wall." -- Henry Chalfant, co-author of Subway Art (1984)
During lockdown, Tilt — a French graffiti artist from Toulouse, internationally renowned for his graffiti — took on a wild challenge: painting one throw-up a day. More than 700 appeared across his city, only to vanish soon after under layers of buff paint.
From this repetitive practice — both ephemeral and obsessive — this book was born. A deep dive into the aesthetics of appearance and disappearance, Never Ending Story documents two decades of gestures, traces, and erasures.
Featuring international legends such as Moses, Taps, Nop2, Seen, Pemex, OsGemeos, Remio, Fish, Puls, Padre… this book is both a tribute to one of graffiti’s most essential practices and reflection on repetition, memory, and the persistence of the trace.
More than just a photo book, Never Ending Story is a unique visual and theoretical testimony bringing together Tilt’s hands-on experience, the insights of researchers, and the perspective of a pioneer like Henry Chalfant.
