Based on the inspiring, true story of a precocious young Inuit girl who is abandoned and left to fend for herself in the unforgiving Arctic North. This coming-of-age tale celebrates the indomitable will to survive at any cost.
Yvonne Harris spent her childhood in the Yukon in the 1940s during the time of the paddlewheelers. She is an avid outdoors woman, even though a recent stroke has forced her to trade marathon canoeing for easy paddles. She has paddled the Yukon River at least 12 times beginning when her children were babies. Her youngest is now in her thirties. She told the story of the Echo Valley mystery to her children on one of her many trips on the Yukon River. This section of the river where the story is takes place has perfect echoes, thus the name of the wood camp. To write Yukon Gold Mystery, the author researched the Telegraph Trail, taking advantage of the excellent resources of the Yukon Heritage Branch.
