At present, organophosphorus compounds (OP) are considered some of the most toxic substances synthesised by man. The primary toxicity of organophosphates is associated with the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase in the central and peripheral nervous system, resulting in acetylcholine accumulation and consequently disrupted neurotransmission.
