Technologies of the Unconscious
How AI Is Rewriting Culture, Desire, and Human Agency
Long before we choose, something has already chosen for us. As the systems that shape what we watch, read, and desire increasingly automate the patterns of culture itself, Belen Prado examines how attention, identity, and desire are transformed beneath conscious awareness. Drawing on Gilbert Simondon, Bernard Stiegler, and Byung-Chul Han, she asks what happens when algorithms read our unconscious patterns before we do, and how agency might be reclaimed once the unconscious becomes a data asset. A grounded, accessible account of what AI displaces, and why culture, not labour or war, is its true battleground.
Belen Prado is an artificial intelligence specialist, philosopher, and writer. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she has lived in Germany since 2019 and completed a doctorate at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. She has published on the intersection of AI, philosophy, and cultural studies. Working as a data engineer at a major financial corporation, she remains closely engaged with the machine learning scene and its cultural and political debates.
