Pareidolia

Between observation and projection, Pareidolia charts Sarah van Rij and David van der Leeuw’s shared fascination for the faces, figures and personalities that surface in the world around us – and the human instinct to seek them out. Amassed over many years, through city streets and natural landscapes, these photographs stem from a simple game of looking: from the right perspective, a discarded object becomes a body, a crack in the pavement a fleeting character, strange yet familiar.

Settling their gaze on the overlooked, van Rij and van der Leeuw briefly bring the inanimate to life, re-enchanting the everyday with new possibility.
