The Imperial Japanese Navy (Nihon Kaigun) 1900-1945' is a comprehensive study that provides biographical information on several thousand Japanese officers of Admiral rank who served the Empire between 1900-1945, from the time that they attained flag rank, with photographs of most of the senior Admirals. The book also includes an order of battle of the Japanese Navy (IJN) during these years, with a listing of the highest administrative and field commands and their commanders. To complete the overall scope of the subject matter, seven chapters provide information about the aircraft carriers, battleships, and cruisers of the IJN, with histories that include the dates that the vessels were launched, their eventual fates, and photographs of these important elements of the IJN.
Andris J. Kursietis has been a researcher of military history for over forty years, concentrating on Germany and her Axis allies, using resources that span the globe. His previously published works include The Royal Hungarian Armed Forces 1919 - 1945, La Regia Marina 1919 - 1945, The Royal Hungarian Army and Its Leadership in World War II, The Armed Forces of Latvia 1918 - 1940, The Wehrmacht at War, The Luftwaffe 1935 - 1945, Between Kaiser and Führer, and Under Three Flags - The German Navy 1914 1945. For his work on documenting the history of the Hungarian armed forces, the Hungarian Knightly Order of Vitéz (Vitézi Rend) in 1997 awarded Kursietis its Cross of Merit, and in 2008 the World Federation of Hungarian Veterans presented him with their Silver Medal of Merit. Kursietis has contributed articles to The Military Advisor and Axis Europa magazines, and to the quarterly publication of the International Hungarian Military History Preservation Society, Magyar Front. He continues to research and write in his spare time away from a full-time career heading his own translation services company.
