The evolution of a town from agriculture and trade to industry. From Bahadur Shah Zafar and partition to modern day India. Seven women, their lives and loves entangled, the curse which affected them, the men who loved them, the juggis which afflicted them and the labyrinth and catacomb which intrigued them. An ornithologist's fight to protect his birds. The murder and trafficking of humans and the evil, which lurked behind the innocuous facade of a lingering town. One man's courage to overcome his circumstances and to protect his community and a daughter's battle to win the man she loves while discovering the father she thought she had lost.
Charlotte Gardner is an Anglo-Indian who spent several years in Darjeeling first at a Methodist Mission School, then as a wife and mother. At Kanpur, one of the venues at which she worked her first novel was created, 'A Handful of Dust', based on her family home 'Manota', followed by 'The Curse of Garibagh' culled from Kanpur experiences. However, writing was put on hold for a while as the demands of her job as CEO of a Tea Company at Nepal occupied most of her time. She is currently writing full time at Dehradun where she presently resides.
