Waste-to-Energy is one of the key technologies for sustainable waste management. The book by Laura Mastellone offers a comprehensive overview of the various processes for thermal waste treatment such as incineration, pyrolysis, and gasification. It is instrumental for understanding objectives, functioning, residues, and environmental impacts of thermal processes. This is worthwhile reading for any expert in the field of resources and waste management.
Maria Laura Mastellone has got the chemical engineer degree at Faculty of Engineering of Federico II University on 1995 and she has obtained her Ph.D by discussing a thesis on thermal treatments of plastics waste by looking at the innovative ways to obtain new materials from the plastic waste on 1999. She is associate professor at University of Naples II (SUN) since 2000 by teaching Chemical and Biochemical Plants Design and Chemical Reaction Engineering. She is the leader of the Analysis and Design of Systems and Technologies for Waste Recovery and Treatment research group of the SUN and coordinates several research projects focused on the waste management of solid waste, alternative methods for thermal treatments of solid waste and environmental risk evaluation. She published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers related to these fields. By a professional point of view she has a specific experience in the preparation of waste management plans for wide territories and single municipalities and designing of integrated waste management systems. In view of this, she was also commissioned in the rule of deputy Mayor (2009-2010) and Province Councillor (2011-2012) for Waste Management and Environment.
