A Steelhead Odyssey

Born in the tumbling, oxygen-rich waters of a Pacific Coast stream, Salgair quickly learns about survival of the fittest. Follow Salgair, a steelhead trout, as he grows from a small fry in a river to a trophy fish in the ocean, and experience the dangers, both man-made and natural, that he faces during his life. This story is presented to the young who are interested in how the lifecycle of a steelhead salmon works. Waylaying the usual point-form facts, this title is designed to encourage the future fisherpersons, biologists and conservationists to learn what obstacles and adventures a steelhead trout must go through to complete his life cycle.
Barry Thornton is one of BC's best know and respected fishing authors, having earned the Outdoor Writers of Canada Award of Merit, as well as the Roderick Haig-Brown Memorial Award. He has been involved with fishing and the outdoors for most of his life, as a professional educator and as an outdoors writer and photographer. Founding chairman and three-time president of the Steelhead society of BC, he is a devoted and knowledgeable angler who has much to share with his fellow fishermen. Barry is also the author of Steelhead, Saltwater Fly Fishing and has contributed to West Coast Steelheader and West Coast Fly Fisher, all Hancock House Publications.
