Nowadays, there is an enormous worldwide interest in HTR systems, which is mostly driven by the emergence of new portable devices incorporating handwriting recognition functions. Others interests are the biometric identification systems employing handwritten signatures, as well as the requirements from cultural heritage institutions like historical archives and libraries in order to preserve their large collections of historical (handwritten) documents. The book is organised into two sections: the first one is mainly devoted to describing the current state-of-the-art applications in HTR and the last advances in some of the steps involved in HTR workflow (that is, pre-processing, feature extraction, recognition engines, etc.), whereas the second focuses more on some relevant HTR-related applications. In more depth, the first part offers an overview of the current state-of-the-art applications of HTR technology and introduces the new challenges and research opportunities in the field. Besides, it provides a general discussion of currently ongoing approaches towards solving the underlying search problems on the basis of existing methods for HTR in terms of both accuracy and efficiency. In particular, there are chapters especially focused on image thresholding and enhancement, text image pre-processing techniques for historical handwritten documents and feature extraction methods for HTR. Likewise, in line with the breakout success of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) in the field, a whole chapter is devoted to describing the designing of HTR systems based on DNNs. Finally, a chapter listing the most used benchmarking datasets for HTR is also included, providing detailed information about which types of HTR systems (on\/offline) and features are commonly considered for each of them. In the second part, several systems also developed on the basis of the fundamental concepts and general approaches outlined in the first part -- are described for several HTR-related applications. Presented in the corresponding chapters, these applications cover a wide spectrum of scenarios: mathematical formulae recognition, scripting language recognition, multimodal handwriting-speech recognition, hardware design for online HTR, student performance evaluation through handwriting analysis, performance evaluation methods, keyword spotting, and handwritten signature verification systems. Last but not least, it is important to remark that to a large extent, this book is the result of works carried out by several researchers in the Handwritten Text Recognition field. Therefore, it owes credit to these researchers that have directly contributed to their ideas, discussions and technical collaborations, and in general who, in one manner or another, have made it possible.","brand":"Nova Science Publishers, Inc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65422132904285,"sku":null,"price":182.99,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781536119374.jpg?v=1789492469"},{"product_id":"9781536125528","title":"Software Engineering","description":"This book covers the core concepts and principles of software engineering through the design and implementation of a software engineering semester project from a primarily object-oriented approach. These technologies provide a way to perform parallel scientific studies in a very short period of time with low cost. High throughput techniques, mainly, next generation sequencing, microarray and mass spectrometry, have strengthened the omics vision in the last decades (study of complete system) and now resulted in well-developed branches of omics i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, which deal with almost every level of central dogma of life. Practice of high throughput techniques throughout the world with different aims and objectives resulted in a voluminous data, which required computational applications, i.e., database, algorithm and software to store, process and get biological interpretation from primary raw data. Researchers from different fields are looking to analyze these raw data for different purposes, but lacking of proper information and knowledge in proper documented form creates different kinds of hurdles and raises the challenges. This book contains thirteen chapters that deal with different computational biology\/bioinformatics resources and concepts which are already in practice by the scientific community or can be utilized to handle various aspects of different classes of omics data. It includes different computational concepts, algorithm, resources and recent trends belonging to the four major branches of omics (i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics), including integrative omics. This book examines four areas where risks are present: artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), government and malware. The authors channel their experience and research into an accessible body of knowledge for consideration by professionals. AI is introduced as a tool for healthcare, security and innovation. The advantages of using AI in new industries are highlighted in the context of recent developments in mechanical engineering, and a survey of AI software risks is presented focusing on well-publicised failures and US FDA regulatory guidelines. The risks associated with the billions of devices that form the IoT grow with the availability of such devices in consumer products, healthcare, energy infrastructure and transportation. The risks, software engineering risk mitigation methods and standards promoting a level of care for the manufacture of IoT devices are examined because of their importance for software developers. Strategic insights for software developers looking to do business with the US federal government are presented, considering threats to both public and private sectors as well as governmental priorities from recent executive and legislative branch actions. Finally, an analysis of malicious software that infects numerous computer systems each day and causes millions of dollars in damages every year is presented. As current free textual databases are growing almost exponentially with the time, the string matching problem is becoming more expensive in terms computational times. The authors believe that recent advances in parallel and distributed processing techniques are currently mature enough and can provide powerful computing means convenient for overcoming this string matching problem. In this book the authors present a short survey for well known sequential exact and approximate string searching algorithms. Further, the authors propose four text searching implementations onto general purpose parallel computer like a cluster of heterogeneous workstations using MPI message passing library. The first three parallel implementations are based on the static and dynamic master-worker methods. Further, the authors propose a hybrid parallel implementation that combines the advantages of static and dynamic parallel methods in order to reduce the load imbalance and communication overhead. Moreover, the authors present linear processor array architectures for flexible exact and approximate string matching. These architectures are based on parallel realisation of dynamic programming and non-deterministic finite automaton algorithms. The algorithms consist of two phases, i.e. pre-processing and searching. Then, starting from the data dependence graphs of the searching phase, parallel algorithms are derived, which can be realised directly onto special purpose processor array architectures for approximate string matching. Further, the pre-processing phase is also accommodated onto the same processor array designs. In addition, the proposed architectures support flexible patterns i.e. patterns with a \"don't care\" symbol, patterns with a complement symbol and patterns with a class symbol. Finally, this book proposes a generic design of a programmable array processor architecture for a wide variety of approximate string matching algorithms to gain high performance at low cost. Further, the authors describe the architecture of the array and the architecture of the cell in more detail in order to efficiently implement for both the pre-processing and searching phases of most string matching algorithms.","brand":"Nova Science Publishers, Inc (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65426917589341,"sku":null,"price":39.74,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781606922613.jpg?v=1789381541"},{"product_id":"9781606923818","title":"Measuring Power of Algorithms, Programs \u0026 Automata","description":"We are living in a world where complexity of systems created and studied by people grows beyond all imaginable limits. Computers, their software and their networks are among the most complicated systems of our time. Science is the only efficient tool for dealing with this overwhelming complexity. One of the methodologies developed in science is the axiomatic approach. It proved to be very powerful in mathematics. In this book, the authors developed further an axiomatic approach in computer science initiated by Floyd, Manna, Blum and other researchers. In the traditional constructive setting, different classes of algorithms (programs, processes or automata) are studied separately, with some indication of relations between these classes. In such a way, the constructive approach gave birth to the theory of Turing machines, theory of partial recursive functions, theory of finite automata, and other theories of constructive models of algorithms. The axiomatic context allows one to research collections of classes of algorithms, automata, and processes. These classes are united in a collection by common properties in a form of axioms. From Karen Lopezs Foreword: In this book, Thomas Frisendal raises important questions about the continued usefulness of traditional data modelling notations and approaches: Are Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) relevant to analytical data requirements? Are ERDs relevant in the new world of Big Data? Are ERDs still the best way to work with business users to understand their needs? Are Logical and Physical Data Models too closely coupled? Are we correct in using the same notations for communicating with business users and developers? Should we refine our existing notations and tools to meet these new needs, or should we start again from a blank page? What new notations and approaches will we need? How will we use those to build enterprise database systems? Frisendal takes us through the history of data modelling, enterprise data models and traditional modelling methods. He points out, quite contentiously, where he feels we have gone wrong and in a few places where we got it right. He then maps out the psychology of meaning and context, while identifying important issues about where data modelling may or may not fit in business modelling. The main subject of this work is a proposal for a new exploration-driven modelling approach and new modelling notations for business concept models, business solutions models, and physical data models with examples on how to leverage those for implementing into any target database or datastore. These new notations are based on a property graph approach to modelling data. From the authors introduction: This book proposes a new approach to data modelling -- one that turns the inside out. For well over thirty years, relational modelling and normalisation was the name of the game. One can ask that if normalisation was the answer, what was the problem? There is something upside-down in that approach, as we will see in this book. Data analysis (modelling) is much like exploration. Almost literally. The data modeler wanders around searching for structure and content. It requires perception and cognitive skills, supported by intuition (a psychological phenomenon), that together determine how well the landscape of business semantics is mapped. Mapping is what we do; we explore the unknowns, draw the maps and post the Here be Dragons warnings. Of course there are technical skills involved, and surprisingly, the most important ones come from psychology and visualisation (again perception and cognition) rather than pure mathematical ability. Two compelling events make a paradigm shift in data modelling possible, and also necessary: 1.The advances in applied cognitive psychology address the needs for proper contextual framework and for better communication, also in data modelling, and 2. The rapid intake of non-relational technologies (Big Data and NoSQL).","brand":"Technics Publications LLC (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65433174606173,"sku":null,"price":46.49,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781634621212.jpg?v=1789255302"},{"product_id":"9781634621304","title":"Julia for Data Science","description":"Master how to use the Julia language to solve business critical data science challenges. After covering the importance of Julia to the data science community and several essential data science principles, we start with the basics including how to install Julia and its powerful libraries. Many examples are provided as we illustrate how to leverage each Julia command, dataset, and function. Specialised script packages are introduced and described. Hands-on problems representative of those commonly encountered throughout the data science pipeline are provided, and we guide you in the use of Julia in solving them using published datasets. Many of these scenarios make use of existing packages and built-in functions, as we cover: 1. An overview of the data science pipeline along with an example illustrating the key points, implemented in Julia; 2. Options for Julia IDEs; 3. Programming structures and functions; 4. Engineering tasks, such as importing, cleaning, formatting and storing data, as well as performing data pre-processing; 5. Data visualisation and some simple yet powerful statistics for data exploration purposes; 6. Dimensionality reduction and feature evaluation; 7. Machine learning methods, ranging from unsupervised (different types of clustering) to supervised ones (decision trees, random forests, basic neural networks, regression trees, and Extreme Learning Machines); 8. Graph analysis including pinpointing the connections among the various entities and how they can be mined for useful insights. This book contains three parts: 1.Explanation. Part I will explain will explain the concepts underlying blockchain. A precise and concise definition is provided, distinguishing blockchain from blockchain architecture. Variations of blockchain are explored based upon the concepts of purpose and scope. 2. Usage. Now that you understand blockchain, where do you use it? The reason for building a blockchain application must include at least one of these five drivers: transparency, streamlining, privacy, permanence, or distribution. Usages based upon these five drivers are shown for finance, insurance, government, manufacturing and retail, utilities, healthcare, nonprofit, and media. Process diagrams will illustrate each usage through inputs, guides, enablers, and outputs. Also examined are the risks of applying these usages, such as cooperation, incentives, and change. 3.Impact. Now that you know where to use blockchain, how will it impact our existing IT (Information Technology) environment? Part III explores how blockchain will impact data management. The Data Management Body of Knowledge 2nd Edition (DAMA-DMBOK2) is an amazing book that defines the data management field along with the often complex relationships that exist between the various data management disciplines. Learn how blockchain will impact each of these 11 disciplines: Data Governance, Data Architecture, Data Modeling and Design, Data Storage and Operations, Data Security, Data Integration and Interoperability, Document and Content Management, Reference and Master Data, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Metadata Management, and Data Quality Management. This is the book your Systems Integrator and your Application Software vendor dont want you to read. Enterprise IT (Information Technology) is a $3.8 trillion per year industry worldwide. Most of it is waste. We've grown used to projects costing tens of millions or even billions of dollars, and routinely running over budget and schedule many times over. These overages in both time and money are almost all wasted resources. However, the waste is hard to see, after being so marbled through all the products, processes, and guiding principles. That is what this book is about. We must see, understand, and agree about the problem before we can take coordinated action to address it. The trajectory of this book is as follows: In Chapter 1, we explore how bad the current state is. The three industries that address software waste are discussed, including the legacy software industry, neo-legacy software industry, and legacy modernization industry. Examples of application waste are illustrated from both public and private sectors. In Chapter 2, we explore the economics of the software industry. Although the economic tradeoffs are changing at the speed of Moores Law, our approaches are not keeping pace. Learn how information systems really behave in terms of actual application development. In Chapter 3 we use root cause analysis to reveal the real contributors to this situation, which are dependency, redundancy, complexity, and application centricity. Chapter 4 recounts the many failed attempts weve made in the past to deal with information system complexity, including relational databases, ERP systems, enterprise data modeling, service oriented architectures, and APIs, Agile, data warehouse and business intelligence, outsourcing and offshoring, cloud, Software as a Service (SaaS), data lakes, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Chapter 5 dismantles seven fallacies that contribute to our remaining stuck. For example, the first fallacy is We need detailed requirements or we wont get what we want. The quagmire is not affecting all sectors of the economy equally. Chapter 6 looks at how this is playing out in the government and private sectors, large and small companies, and various parts of the IT industry itself. Chapter 7 outlines some action you can take now to begin to extricate yourself, including a detailed assessment and defining metrics for measuring and preventing software development waste.","brand":"Technics Publications LLC (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65433178046813,"sku":null,"price":19.49,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781634623162.jpg?v=1789255482"},{"product_id":"9781634624091","title":"AI for Data Science","description":"Master the approaches and principles of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, and apply them to Data Science projects with Python and Julia code. Although its effectively a brand new book, therefore, the following remarks from that earlier book are still relevant here. First, logic and databases are inextricably intertwined. The relational model itself is essentially just elementary logic, tailored to database needs. Now, if youre a database professional, this wont be news to you -- but you still might not realize just how much everything we do in the database world is (or should be!) affected by logic. Logic is fundamental, and everywhere. As a database professional, therefore, you owe it to yourself to understand the basics of formal logic, and you ought to be able to explain (and perhaps defend) the connections between formal logic and database technology. And thats what this book is about. What it does is show, through a series of partly independent, partly interrelated essays, just how various crucial aspects of database technology -- some of them very familiar, others maybe less so -- are solidly grounded in formal logic. Overall, the goal is to help you realize the importance of logic in everything you do, and also, I hope, to help you see that logic can be fun.","brand":"Technics Publications LLC (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65433182568797,"sku":null,"price":30.74,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781634628754.jpg?v=1789255717"},{"product_id":"9781634852258","title":"Advances in Social Networking Research","description":"This book provides current research on social networking. If you already have ADO.NET experience, you can skip ahead. In section 2, you will quickly be prototyping database applications using Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools like data sources. In section 3, you will learn how to build 3-layer applications the ways the pros do, with presentation, business, and database classes. This is where you'll get into ADO.NET coding to create your own database classes. Section 4 covers LINQ (Language-Integrated Query), a .NET 3.5 feature that lets you handle all types of data using a query language that's integrated into Visual Basic and that saves you a lot of ADO.NET coding. That means you'll learn how to: Use LINQ to DataSet to query the data in typed or untyped datasets; Use LINQ to SQL, which allows you to generate an object model from the objects in a SQL Server database that can then be used to access and update the database data...a feature that offers you some of the same benefits as the Entity Framework; Use LINQ to XML to manipulate XML data much more easily than you can using the Document Object Model; Use LINQ data source controls with web applications. In section 5, you will learn to work with the ADO.NET Entity Framework...another way to let .NET generate the code you need and do more of the work for you. Using this feature, you create an Entity Data Model that defines a conceptual model for the business objects used by an application, a storage model for the objects in a database, and mappings that relate the two. Then: You can use LINQ or a special form of SQL to retrieve data into the business objects; You can work with the business objects and save changes to the database using generated code; You can use Entity data source controls with web applications.","brand":"Murach (Mike) \u0026 Associates Inc (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65440656785757,"sku":null,"price":40.49,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781890774523.jpg?v=1789078289"},{"product_id":"9781890774530","title":"Murach's ADO.NET 3.5 LINQ \u0026 the Entity Framework with C# 2008","description":"You won't get far as a C# developer unless you know how to write database applications. The trouble is that jQuery is difficult to learn, especially for programming novices. Now, this new book makes it easier than ever to learn jQuery, jQuery UI (User Interface), and jQuery Mobile. In essence, sections 2 and 3 of this book present all of the jQuery and jQuery UI skills that you need for developing professional jQuery applications. With those skills, you will be able to add all of the popular jQuery applications to your web pages: image swaps, image rollovers, collapsible panels, slide shows, accordions, tabs, carousels, and more. Beyond that, though, you will have all the skills that you need for developing unique jQuery applications of your own. But that's just two of the five sections in the book. Because you need to know JavaScript in order to use jQuery, section 1 presents the least you need to know about JavaScript to get the most from jQuery. This is essential for programming novices, but this is also valuable for experienced programmers who may not remember how a specific JavaScript statement or method works. In short, this section makes this book a complete reference for jQuery programmers. In contrast, section 4 takes jQuery to a new level by showing you how to use Ajax and JSON to get data from a web server and add it to a web page without reloading the page. It also shows how to use Ajax and JSON with the APIs for popular web sites like Blogger, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, and Google Maps. These are powerful skills for enhancing a web site. To complete this package, section 5 presents a complete course in jQuery Mobile, which offers an exciting, new way to develop web sites for mobile devices. Today, the best web sites are available in both full and mobile versions, so this section also shows how to use a JavaScript plugin to redirect a mobile device from the full version of a web site to its mobile version.","brand":"Murach (Mike) \u0026 Associates Inc (US)","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":65440657539421,"sku":null,"price":41.99,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1041\/3893\/2573\/files\/9781890774707.jpg?v=1789078358"},{"product_id":"9781890774714","title":"Murachs Android Programming","description":"This book teaches anyone with a basic understanding of Java how to develop Android apps at a professional level.
